- Hotel for breakfast – one of the most beautifully presented meals we’ve had in Japan, a dozen tiny eats that complemented each other seperately.
- Got the bus to Shirakawa-go town, where we had enough time to go for a walk around… except it was snowing very hard and we had our luggage with us. Decided to just spend the time waiting for the long-range bus to our next station instead, which was a stop-over in Takayama Station.
- Bus out of the alps again gave some wonderful views, and a noticeably warmer climate when stepping off the bus.
- During our stopover in Takayama, we contemplated trying to order some lunch through Uber Eats to be delivered to the station itself, but nothing was open. Instead, we found a kombini and loaded up on snacks. Much later, we wandered slightly further into what seemed like a dead-end from where we were and found a place selling ekiben’s for the train, which was a delightful find.
- Eventually jumped the train to Nagoya, enjoyed our ekiben, and relaxed for the journey.
- Arriving in Nagoya, we got a taxi to the hotel (full travel days always tire us out for some reason), checked in, dumped our stuff and stopped at the café in the hotel lobby for a coffee.
- After a few days in the alps, being able to enjoy a coffee without heavy winter coats was a weird feeling! Nagoya was warm enough to get away with t-shirts, at least during the day.
- After a quick nap to regain some energy, we went out for a noodle place I’d found – Toragen. While they seem to specialise in dan-dan noodles, we both went for the chicken ramen with nuts, which was extremely good! The beers and gyoza were also top notch.
- After a walk around Nagoya at night to help digest our food, we found our way back to the hotel to turn in for the night.
